Choosing a Site That's Right for You
When searching for a web host, you will probably encounter a plethora of web sites listing a bunch of web hosting companies in such a format as a top 10 list. The problem with most of these sites is that the rank of a web host is determined simply by how much the host is paying the review site for that position.
The key to avoiding biased sites is to check to see if the hosting review site also offers useful hosting-related content to help you get started. That includes tutorials for control panels, blog software, ftp and other webmaster tasks. More importantly the site should clearly state how their staff evaluates web hosting providers and ranks them accordingly. Last but not least, it's essential that their evaluation process takes into account customer feedback. Most say they do, but there's no way way to be sure unless you can see the actual customer reviews of web hosting companies.
This may seem overly complicated and it is. Overall, you can probably fair perfectly well using your instinct – meaning, if a site looks like it's only set up to sell for hosting companies, it's probably biased... But if the hosting review site looks like it's set up to help you start your first web site with ease and ensure you get the best bang for your buck with whatever hosting company you choose, that's the type of site we recommend using.
